The 5 Habits of Highly Effective Work-at-home Moms

The 5 Habits of Highly Effective WAHMsThe 5 Habits of Highly Effective WAHMs
What do you think of when you hear the term work-at-home mom? Women selling make-up at parties? Moms sewing cloth diapers?
Well, there are definitely some women doing those things, but there's a much wider range of jobs that moms are doing from home than sell make-up and make baby clothes. For example,I work from home full time (and then some), as a freelance writer for three different websites.
I have friends who sell things at parties for extra income, but I also have a ton of friends who work from home in lots of other capacities: part-time, full-time, telecommuting to huge corporations, and entrepreneurs who have forged their own businesses.

After interviewing a number of work-at-home moms and learning about all of their very unique experiences and jobs, I also found that all the women had several things in common which leads to them being so successful at what they do. So here are 5 essential characteristics of highly effective work-at-home moms:
1. All the women are flexible. Whether they had changed paths in their careers, or simply made the best of a bad situation, all the women I interviewed had a history of thinking creatively and solving problems. Susan, who is a Senior Editor for a national optical trade magazine, had proven herself a hard worker and team player, always pitching in where needed, before landing her current work-at-home gig. Lauren, who works part-time as a medical textbook editor, also started an Etsy business. And Carrie, a personal concierge, tailors her work exactly to her clients' needs.
2. The women who started their own businesses took risks and worked hard to make them pay off. Being an entrepreneur means taking risks. Whether you're becoming a full-time babysitter or launching a photography business, you're taking a gamble that you're going to find and maintain a client basis that's going to bring in enough money to make it worthwhile.

3. They all work really hard. Sure, working from home seems glamorous. There's the whole sitting around in your jammies thing, for example. But in fact, if we don't bust our asses, we don't get paid. In fact, many work-at-home moms feel compelled to work even harder than they did in an office, because they don't want bosses to think they're slacking off.
4. They're all highly disciplined. While many of these moms enjoy the flexibility of setting their own hours, when they're working, they're working.
5. None of the women have their kids home full time. It's virtually impossible to work full-time from home and have kids at home. Maureen, who provides child care, is an exception to this rule, and even her kids are in school full time now. The women I interviewed work almost all of their hours while their kids are in school. Sherry, a professional photographer, has her toddler in daycare three days a week because (no surprise here) toddlers don't really enjoy sitting quietly while Mom edits photos, nor are they going to stay in one place while Mom's at a client shoot. If you're thinking about making the jump to working at home, do not make the mistake of thinking that you don't need child care.

interesting yet funny.if the earth's platlet is shaking like in the movie 2012, how would this tube will be ok??

Company Sells Post-Apocalypse Survival Shelters

The world may end at the end of this year, or at least that is what a number of people are fearing because of the ancient Mayan calendar that does not go beyond December 21, 2012. Some people even fear that the end of the world could come in the form of a zombie apocalypse. If you're a doomsdayer or know someone who is, a California-based company has a new solution for you.
Atlas Survival Shelters, whose slogan is "Better prepared than scared," offers survival chambers made out of 32x10-foot metal tubes. The chambers are designed to be installed 20 feet underground, far away from the possible crumbling of the world above. The survival chambers would be accessible from a hatch in the backyard of the survivalist.
Atlas's website says you can stay safe in one of their shelters in the event of "pandemic outbreak, civil unrest, malicious mobs and biological, nuclear fallout or attacks from home grown terrorists or other nations." Not every survival shelter is the same, because they're each customizable. They come equipped with bunk beds, flat-screen televisions, kitchens, and even an electric toilet.
So how much will you have to shell out to own one of these bad boys? The survival shelters start at close to $50,000 and go up from there. The owners say they have not actually sold one yet, but there have been some very serious inquiries. And they've recently added an incentive to purchase: Get 10 acres of land free when you buy a shelter.

interesting yet scary

i found this article at yahoo and its impressed me alot, this is truly a sign that some big changes going to happen to our solar system and its definitely will affect our lifestyle forever and ever.seems like we the earth people might be witnessing some mighty changes of history making.

Jupiter Photos Reveal Big Changes on Giant Planet

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, has made some dramatic transformations in recent years, a new study reveals.
Huge belts in the giant planet's atmosphere have changed color, radiation hotspots have faded and flared up again, and cloud levels have thickened and dissolved, all while space rocks have been hurtling into it the gas giant, astronomers said.
"The changes we're seeing in Jupiter are global in scale," Glenn Orton, a scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., said in a statement today (Oct. 17). Orton and his colleagues have been snapping infrared images of Jupiter from 2009 to 2012 and comparing them with amateur astronomers' visible images.
Astronomers previously observed that from 2009 to 2011, a big brown belt just south of the equator, called the South Equatorial Belt, disappeared and returned.
Orton and his team found that in 2011 the North Equatorial Belt grew whiter than it had in a century, though it started to darken again earlier this year. And along the southern edge of this belt, the team observed infrared hotspots (which signal radiation being released from a deep layer of Jupiter's atmosphere) vanished from 2010 to 2011, but remerged by June 2012. During this period, the researchers also observed thickening of the deeper cloud decks in the northern belt, the while both the deeper and upper cloud decks of the southern belt condensed and then cleared up.
Jupiter has also suffered more impacts over the last four years than previously observed. [Surprise Impact on Jupiter (Video)]
At least three space rocks, likely less than 45 feet (15 meters) in diameter, have plunged the atmosphere, creating fireballs visible to Jupiter-watchers on the ground. The most recent asteroid strike on Jupiter hit on Sept. 10, but researchers don't believe this impact will cause any long-term disturbance on the planet.
Orton said astronomers have seen some of these changes before, "but never with modern instrumentation to clue us in on what's going on."
"Other changes haven't been seen in decades, and some regions have never been in the state they're appearing in now. At the same time, we've never seen so many things striking Jupiter," he explained in a statement. "Right now, we're trying to figure out why this is all happening."
Orton noted that the appearance of upheaval on Jupiter might be attributed to a recent flood of observations by amateur astronomers.
"It does appear that Jupiter is taking an unusual beating over the last few years, but we expect that this apparent increase has more to do with an increasing cadre of skilled amateur astronomers training their telescopes on Jupiter and helping scientists keep a closer eye on our biggest planet," Orton said.
The research was detailed today at the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Sciences meeting in Reno, Nev.

satu malaysia!!

5 months. 400 hours of solid work. 4 cameras. 40 shoots. 640 gigabytes of file space. 19,997 photographs.

That's how much work architectural photographer Rob Whitworth put in to create his dazzling 2 minute 36 second time lapse video of Kuala Lumpur.

When asked why he chose to create a time lapse video of Malaysia's largest metropolis, Whitworth's response is that Kuala Lumpur fascinates him.

"It's hard not to be blown away by the Petronas Twin Towers. At night they are just beautiful. The towers, together with the monorail, give the city an almost science fiction feel.
"I was fascinated by the city's mixture of super-modern buildings existing alongside its varied cultural enclaves and with a little of Asia’s chaos thrown in,"he tells Yahoo! Malaysia.

Whitworth, who works out of Singapore, says time lapse has always interested him. He recalls one of his first high school projects, which was to document the passing of time by photographing flowers and fruit in their prime and revisiting them a few weeks later.

"I was intrigued at how many things constantly go on all around us which pass by largely unnoticed. Time lapse provides a great way to use a camera to show the world as we cannot see it," he says.

His love affair with time lapse videos has won him critical acclaim. A recent video of Ho Chi Minh City posted online went viral and garnered 1.5 million views. That same video also won the Jury Award at the recent EcoKnights KL Eco Film Festival.

Whitworth says he was drawn to the idea of exploring how Kuala Lumpur changes from day to night when he began his project here.

"I was walking down Jalan Alor shortly after arriving in KL. It struck me how much the street changed and transformed during the course of the day.

"I liked the idea of exploring how the city changes from day to night, how spaces dramatically change during the course of a few hours. This developed into one of the themes shown in the video of scenes switching from day to night," he says.

But enough talk. Here's Whitworth's tribute to Malaysia's modern marvel. Watch it for yourself and bask in the city's radiance.
Hypnotic Kuala Lumpur - Our metropolis as you've never seen her before. This 5-month long labour of love by time lapse photographer Rob Whitworth highlights the beauty and bustle of Malaysia's dazzling capital.
